To further the J. Paul Getty Museum’s mission to inspire curiosity about, and enjoyment and understanding of, the visual arts by collecting, conserving, exhibiting and interpreting works of art and to engage our diverse local and international audiences, this trio of videos was produced to accompany the exhibition Unseen: 35 Years of Collecting Photographs (December 17, 2019 – March 8, 2020) https://www.getty.edu/art/exhibitions/unseen/index.html
The three videos (Behind the Scenes with a Curator, Cataloguer, and Conservator) explore how photographs are shared, stored, and protected before they reach gallery walls. Through candid interviews, title graphics, and visits to behind-the-scenes museum spaces, the videos give an intimate and sometimes playful, insider’s look at the professionals who devote their lives to better understanding, preserving, and exhibiting the Museum’s broad and deep collection of photographs.
