The Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts Lausanne (in Switzerland) offers its visitors a mobile app with image recognition, GPS localization within the museum and contrasted reading. These are a few of the many features developed by smArtapps for the Swiss institution.
However, the museum’s initial project was to offer rich content in specific forms to allow greater accessibility and inclusion to all visitors.
To include deaf visitors, the museum has added a specific route, to its app, of the different collections with LSF (French sign language) videos. Visually impaired visitors will be able to choose the contrast option they favor for better reading of all contents.
The museum is also currently developing a special section for blind people, where different artwork commentaries adapt to the specific needs of that segment of visitors.
The mediation at MCBA has made an exceptional work to developing editorial content such as texts, interviews with the artists and/or specialists. The app offers an intimate way to go by the museum and allow mediation to be more inclusive and engaging.
